Lab Assignment 3

Designing Effective Graphics Using MatLab

Due by Oct. 1, 2004 at 11PM

Reading Assignment: Displaying Results with Matlab starting at:

Plotting functions and data in Maple from:

Laboratory Problem

1.) Complete part a) of problem 4.13 in Felder in Rousseau using Maple. Produce two plots: one showing both the approximation and the data in the table on log log coordinates and the second one showing the same results in a rectilinear plot. On both plots, include readable text on the axes and in a title.

2.) Set up your own homepage.  Luckily, Rice already has a site with instructions for designing your own webpage.  If you do not wish to follow this guide, you first need to create a folder in your home directory called “public_html”.  Material placed in this folder will then be visible to all on the world wide web.  Your homepage must be saved as “index.html”.  You can use Microsoft Word to create webpages with minimal knowledge of html.  Note, other website development software such as Dreamweaver is available on Owlnet PCs.

Test Problem

Use Matlab to produce similar plots for the same problem as in the Laboratory problem, but make sure the plots could be used in a presentation in a room like our classroom for CENG 301. In particular make sure the fonts used on labels and title are readable. Demonstrate that you can put your Matlab graphs in Power Point.  Use a hyperlink to connect this to your homepage.
