Chapter 8.3

Theory of Thermal Conductivity of Gases at Low Density

The thermal conductivity for dilute monatomic gases are easily obtained from the kinetic theory. For polyatomic molecules, only rough approximations are available by kinetic theory. Thermal conductivity of gas mixtures at low density are also approximated.

Each of the following sections contains information and examples on how to use MATLAB programs to calculate thermal conductivity of various materials.
