Once upon a time, there was a family of entertainers known for their singing and dancing. The youngest and most talented member of the group was an entertainer who came to be known around the world as the "King of Pop" - Michael. Michael was blessed with enough natural born talent to become a professional musician before he reached the age of ten, and was one of the wealthiest and best liked entertainers in the world in a period known as the eighties. For a time, Michael was almost a god in the entertainment industry. However, Michael was a rather odd fellow, and after reaching the peak of his career with an album called "Thriller", he found himself and his life suddenly placed in a fishbowl. Every aspect of his not quite normal life was then open to public ridicule and shame, including his monkey, personal theme park, his ranch called Never- Never Land, and various other quirks. The respect and admiration many had felt for him turned into taunts and jokes about his lifestyle and sexual habits. Soon Michael realized that the blessing of his talent had turned into the curse of living his life under a microscope. The other members of the family, while not as talented as Michael, went on to successful careers as singers, and models.
A few years later, Michael found someone who was not completely awed by his remarkable talents, and who was sympathetic to life in the fishbowl. This woman was not a god herself, but she was in fact the daughter of one. This woman's name was Lisa-Marie, and her father was Elvis. Elvis had once been a major force in the entertainment industry, and played a major role in the popularization of a music style called rockandroll. He thought Michael was making a mockery of everything that he had worked so hard to establish in the name of rockandroll, and was becoming far too godlike for his own good. Elvis then sent his beautiful daughter to stop him.
However, when Lisa-Marie met Michael, she was very impressed with him, and soon fell in love. Instead of stopping Michael, she decided to try to help him. She found that the only way to make people stop ridiculing Michael was to give him some semblance of a normal lifestyle. In order to do this, she married him and settled down in NeverNever Land to try to take care of Michael. At first, Michael did not actually want a wife, because he feared it would interfere with his personal life. However, he soon came to love her just like a sister.
When Elvis learned of his daughter's marriage to Michael, he was very upset. He immediately called the tabloids to heap still more ridicule on theyoung newlyweds. Michael became convinced that his marriage to Lisa-Marie was a mistake, and thought that she was responsible for the increased media scrutiny into his life. Lisa-Marie finally confessed that her father was trying to destroy their marriage. She swore Michael to secrecy, then explained that Elvis actually is dead, but since he is a god he can still make random appearances in the land of the living. Michael found this story entirely plausible and, unhappy that Elvis was trying to destroy his marriage, took the whole story to the papers. Although no one else believed the story and it was never published, Lisa-Marie still felt deeply betrayed and returned to her father. Michael was overcome with remorse, and swore to do whatever was necessary to get Lisa-Marie back.
Lisa-Marie had already changed her mind and wanted to return to Michael. Although Elvis still thought Michael was a freak, he wanted to see his daughter happy. If Michael could prove his love for Lisa-Marie by giving her a large, wet kiss on the 1994 MTV MusicAwards, then Elvis would give the marriage his approval. Michael did, and the rest is history.
