Two books should be reserved for this class in the bookstore:

A textbook  by Ch. Kittel (8-th edition) and a reading   by Ph. Ball.

Both are recommended, the first one as a texbook to study, and the second one as a stimulating source on modern and future materials, and how we are going to redesign their properties.
