Rotating Pendulum

A simple pendulum rotating about its neutral axis is capable of very complex motions. These motions are capable of being very complex depending on the initial conditions. Because of the interesting and unexpected motions that are possible, a pendulum was built as a learning tool for students taking courses in dynamics and/or controls. The device gives students the opportunely to see first hand differences between an ideal analysis and a working model.

The actual pendulum system consists of a rotating frame containing a simple, free swinging pendulum. The starting angle of the pendulum and the rotating speed of the frame can be controlled.

In this case, the design project was to design and build the device. It was a well built and usable laboratory tool.
