Mutidirectional Wheelchair
The Multidirectional Wheelchair project was suggested by students, one of which
had a friend who was a dental assistant that was wheelchair bound. The object
was to
provide a chair that would operate like a normal wheelchair but could shift
its direction into a lateral motion. With this capability, the chair could move
along file cabinets, kitchencabinets, laboratory tables etc. for convenience
of easier working.
A set of two power wheels that are independently poweredare under the chair. By controls on the arm of the chair,they can be rotated ninety degrees with respect to the chair so that it can travel laterally. This was a successful project.
