Suggested Report Format Revised 9/18/01 Most engineering students should by now know how to prepare a technical report. Here there may be a few different items to include. Thus the following format suggestions should be considered as possible modifications to your usual style. Report Title Course Number Student Name Instructor Name Contents Executive Summary Objective of the study. Conclusions of the study. If it involves a design give the assumptions make, and report the best two or three designs and state which constraint(s) governed the design. If including numerical values attach the units and use reasonable significant figures. If a drawing of each design is appropriate include them here. Be sure that you have used consistent units. Full Report If a lengthy report is needed it should be given next to support the conclusions of the executive summary. Technical details should be included in appendices and cited only when necessary. Appendices Notation Figures Equations Relevant numerical results and a short discussion of each. (Do not just copy a list of printed numbers. Cut and paste remarks when helpful.) Source code listing. Author(s) and all variables should be included in comments unless long_name_stings are used in the code.
