Advanced Computer and Owlnet Information

MATLAB

This will be our main tool. Its use is explained in Ordinary Differential Equations using MATLAB.

The manual can be supplemented by two sources built into MATLAB. First, the MATLAB help command is an easy to use source of information, once you know a little bit. The second source is the complete MATLAB documentation, which can be accessed from within MATLAB with the command helpdesk. It can also be accessed from MATLAB Help Desk
This is the official MATLAB reference document in WWW format.

Owlnet

A lot of good information can be accessed from the Owlnet Home Page

Operating System

The Owlnet workstations run X-Windows under UNIX. At a minimum, you need to know enough about these programs to manage your files and start MATLAB. The necessary information and more can be found in these WWW documents.

Editors

Any editor can be used to create and modify input files for MATLAB. The most convenient an easiest to use is the builtin MATLAB editor.

At least three editors are available on Owlnet: GNU Emacs, aXe, and vi. If you already know one go ahead and use it. The easiest to use is aXe. If you are going to be using an editor a lot we recommend a minimal acquaintance with GNU Emacs. The document UNIX Editors provides a brief introduction to all of the above mentioned UNIX editors.
