Basic Computer and Owlnet Information
An integral part of Math 211 involves the use of computers. It is
essential that everyone get an early start on this. Before the end of the
first week of class a student will be expected to have
- applied for and received
an account on Owlnet,
- registered
that account in Math 211,
- and learned how to use MATLAB
to do an exercise or two in Chapter 2 of Ordinary Differential
Equations using MATLAB.
Soon thereafter you will have to know the
basic commands in UNIX,
and how to use an editor to create simple files.
Everything you need to know about MATLAB is contained in Ordinary
Differential Equations using MATLAB, which is one of the texts
for the course. The special programs which are used in Math 211 will
be available to you on Owlnet if you have properly registered your
account in Math 211. However, if you have your own computer and your
own copy of MATLAB, you can use your browser to
download the M-files for these routines.
