Undergraduate Research Opportunities

Rice has an iGEM team. The team gives students an opportunity to participate in cutting edge genetic engineering in a competitive format.

  • ABOUT iGEM:
    • iGEM is the international genetically engineered machines competition.
    • The objective of the competition is to design and build an engineered biological system using DNA.
    • Systems are constructed from standard biological parts.
    • Although iGEM originated at MIT, this year, there are around 40 schools participating from around the world.
  • For more information see the iGEM wiki.
  • To apply for the team, please contact B. Beason, Ph.D., Biochemistry & Cell Biology (bbeason@rice.edu).
