- Course
HPN completed a senior design course titled BIOE 451-452: Bioengineering Design at Rice University. In this class, senior bioengineering majors design and build a device applicable to biotechnology or medicine. Topics covered in the course include systematic design processes, engineering economics, FDA requirements, safety, engineering ethics, design failures, research design, intellectual property rights, business planning and marketing. Students present written and oral reports on their team projects at various stages throughout the year.

- Team Name
Our team name, HPN, stands for High Performance Ninjas. The team name originated from a remark made by a professor teaching an introductory bioengineering course during our sophomore year. She said that a "high performance" group would have flawless interpersonal skills, discipline, and dedication to completing the project. We combined that description with our appreciation for ninjas and HPN was born! The group has been working together on homeworks and class projects for over 3 years. During the countless hours of stimulating mental exercise over the past years, this term evolved as an accurate description of the team's ability to perform extraordinary feats of intellectual agility and acrobatics.
