At the RASC-AL Forum 2006 awards in Cape Canaveral, FL, we won the Dr. John L. McLucas Award for Space Safety (click here to find out more). With the blessing of our team advisors, we chose to donate the money from the award to seed a fund for future Rice bioengineering senior design projects to support future High Performance senior design teams! Thus, you might imagine that we were quadruply excited to discover that members of the Rice bioengineering community matched our donation! Read the letter we received below (text adapted) for more details:
On behalf of the Department of Bioengineering, George R. Brown School of Engineering, and Rice University, we are pleased to recognize you - the High Performance Ninjas - for your award-winning research, invention and design of the Osteonexus Active Dynamizer.
Your dedication and hard work throughout the 2005-2006 school year is commendable! Your recent successes are outstanding and have brought invaluable notability to you and the Rice University undergraduate program. Furthermore, it is with sincere gratitude I thank you for generosity in donating the McLucas monetary award as seed money to benefit future BIOE 451/452 Senior Design class projects.
Because of your gift, four contributors have committed matching support to the BIOE 451/452 Senior Design class projects! In looking to the future, I would also like to highlight your efforts and awards in the spring 2007 issue of Rice BIOE News.
Please keep in touch and inform us of your activities, pursuits and accomplishments.
With many thanks and best wishes to your success,Rebecca Richards-Kortum, Stanley C. Moore Professor of Bioengineering, Chair of the Department of Bioengineering
