You have two articles to present to the class.
W. Eugene Kleinbauer, "Charlemagne's Palace Chapel at Aachen and Its copies"
Beat Brenk, "Spolia from Constantine to Charlemagne: Aesthetics Versus Ideology"
The purpose of this discussion section is to talk about how past monuments are reused in later monuments, what and how meanings are carried over and transformed. Brenk discusses the use of spolia and Kleinbauer discusses what is meant by a "copy".
You may divide your presentation up among yourselves anyway you would like but be sure to cover all the main points of the authors. A few images have been added to the web site under Team 2 Discussion and you may or may not use these to help explain your points.
For example, start with Brenk.
What does he mean by "spolia" as an ideological rather than an aesthetic expression?
How does this apply to Aachen?
For Krautheimer, be sure to address
What constitutes a "copy" in the middle ages?
Does a copy have to look like the original? What features are essential for the new monument to embody the significance of its model?
