Above is a diagram of a Dj's setup. There are two diagrams of a turntable, and in between is a diagram of a preamplifying mixer. A preamplifying mixer takes sound from turntables, amplifies it, and mixes it so that it can combine a number of sounds. A turntable, or phonograph, reads records and outputs sound.

The above setup is known as "battle style," which is how Chicken George plays, as well as most other Hip Hop Djs. The turntables are modeled after the Technics sl-1200 2dk which is the industry standard. The mixer is modeled after the Technics sh1200dj mixer. Recently Vestax has designed a turntable that has received some attention. Vestax and Rane are currently the leading designers of Hip Hop oriented preamplifying mixers.
