Let Us Now Praise Famous Men: Structure
Divided into two books:
- Book One: Photographs and Preliminaries
- Book Two: The text itself
Agee divides book two into three parts, with intersections (e.g., "On the Porch") that focus on theories of art and representation.
- Part 1, "A Country Letter": "prose poems on the human family"--mysteries
- Part 2, "Some Findings and Comments": statistical reports on money, shelter, clothing, education, work
- Part 3, "Inductions": an account of Agee's first night with Gudger family and his growing sense of compassion. "Inductions" implies beginnings.
