Two texts in the Campus Store: Bevington's Essential Shakespeare, and Signet Titus Andronicus
Other editions are okay IF YOU ARE WILLING TO CARRY THEM TO CLASS FOR EVERY CLASS MEETING (but see me first)

REQUIREMENTS
Regular attendance
Independent thought
Subscription to the "engl321" list (see General Instructions for details)
Some film/performance viewing
Lots of participation in class discussion
Brief assignments (c. 1 page)
7 short papers (4 pages) using different approaches, 1 per play
Group presentation of a 15-minute scene (from any play we've read) on April 22 (MEMORIZATION AND POSSIBLY SOME COURAGE REQUIRED BUT ABSOLUTELY NO ACTING TALENT NECESSARY
Final exam/paper (5-6 pages) on your scene and how and why it matters to the play



GRADING
Assignments: for the (n) assignments, complete (i.e. completely) (n-1) assignments and get an "A"; do fewer and get an "F"
Papers: A= all of the following: original and interesting thesis, well organized argument, lots of convincing evidence, compelling style
B=workable thesis, well organized argument, good evidence, decent style
C=obvious or boring thesis, coherent argument, some evidence, correct grammar and word choice
D=missing one of the qualities listed in C
F=missing two or more qualities listed in C

Grade = average of the 10 following grades:
Assignments grade, 6 paper grades, scene grade, final-grade-counted-twice
result nudged one way or the other by classroom participation
