ELEC 696: Computer Architecture Seminar Instructors: Scott Rixner and Peter Varman Spring 2007 Tue 1-2PM Herzstein Hall 119

The computer architecture seminar is a discussion oriented class about current research in computer architecture. This semester we will read research papers (one per week) published in major computer architecture conferences (HPCA, ISCA, ASPLOS, MICRO) in 2006. Students will informally present papers of their choice throughout the semester (current schedule) and participate in class discussions about those papers. The goal of the seminar is to provide students with the opportunity to gain familiarity with recent computer architecture research. The only prerequisite is COMP/ELEC 425 or the equivalent.

New students are encouraged to attend.

Things to do before each meeting

• Read the paper.
• Prepare a brief summary of the paper consisting of the following:
  1. Contributions (1-2 sentences),
  2. Good things about the paper (2-3 points),
  3. Bad things about the paper (2-3 points),
  4. Most interesting stuff you learned from the paper

Things to do during each meeting

• No formal presentations (no PowerPoint slides). The presenter should summarize the paper and lead discussion.
• Every one else should participate in discussion...
