Goal: The goal of this course is to familiarize students with the basic ideas and techniques of single-variable calculus, differentiation and integration. We will cover the first six chapters of the textbook.
Homework: Homework will be due in class every Friday, and it will be worth 15% of the final grade. It is not pledged, and you are encouraged to discuss the homework and to work together on the problems. However, the solutions should be prepared individually. No late homework will be accepted, but I will drop the lowest homework grade.
Tests: There will be two in-class midterms, worth 25% of the grade each. The tentative dates are February 11 and March 31. The final, worth 35% of the grade, will be scheduled by Rice University, and this date is non-negotiable.
Help Sessions: Taylor Coon will hold help sessions on Wednesdays from 7-9 pm in HB 227. I encourage you to start your homework before then to get maximum benefit from the help sessions.
Disability Support: Any student with a documented disability needing academic adjustments or accommodations should speak with me during the first two weeks of class to make arrangements. All discussions will remain confidential. Students with disabilities should also contact Disability Support Services in the Ley Student Center.
