Rationale

The days of COMP 314 students huddling together in public Owlnet labs to complete their class projects are almost over, now that most dorm rooms feature at least one computer sufficient for software development. That doesn't mean that all of the community aspects of a programming course need be left behind; for this reason we now have an IRC channel set up for COMP 314 students to ask questions, brainstorm, and collaborate.

In addition to students, the #comp314 channel will be frequented by the course TAs and labbies. All channel traffic is logged and monitored, so by reading the transcripts any student can benefit from questions others have asked or answered.
