Fill out the
learning styles assessment
and send your results to the instructor. When you
press the submit button, you will get a response page containing your
results. Save the response page to a file as text (under the "file" menu
in most browsers) and email that file to the instructor
(keith@cs.rice.edu). You may wish to keep a copy of the file for your
own reference. See the
learning styles descriptions
for information on what the results might tell you.
Why do we ask you to do a learning styles assessment?
Research shows that students with different learning styles prefer
different kinds of class presentations, study situations, and
assignments. Knowing something about your learning style helps both
you and the instructors in a course:
- If you are having problems in a course, knowing something about your
learning style may help you determine where the problems lie and
what you can do to address them.
- Knowing about the learning styles of students in the class helps
the instructional staff target the lectures and assignments.
If you are having difficulties in our course, we can use your
learning style assessment to look for appropriate ways to help you.
Understand that this assessment provides only a guideline, not a
hard-and-fast evaluation. Furthermore, there is no "right" or "wrong"
learning style for students in any particular discipline. This is only a
diagnostic that may help us help you learn how to study the material more
effectively. There is a large collection of
information on learning styles
available on-line if you are interested. If you
have questions or concerns about this assessment, please talk to the
instructor.
