Experiment 2 - Synthesis of an Inorganic Compound
Before you go to lab:
- Review the Antacid Experiment for the quiz.
- New Reading Assignment: pp. 45-51
While in lab:
- Synthesize and purify the inorganic compound. Remember that purity is as
important as yield. Record any personal or procedural errors that may result in
loss of product.
- Weigh the pure crystals after drying.
- If you aren't able to finish the procedure, you may come back later in the week to dry and weigh your product.
- Save the crystals in your desiccator for spectrophotometric analysis later
in the semester.
Calculations and Analysis:
- Calculate the percent yield.
- Be careful when calculating the weight and number of moles for
ethylenediamine. Many students have done this incorrectly in the past.
