Conclusions

We have seen how to use macroscopic mass balances in the particular case of a linear cascade of binary separators. Although all equipment is different, the same basic approach is followed for each of them. We also saw the importance of the separation factor in separations such as distillation and, in the particular case of batch distillation, how to determine the minimum number of stages required to achieve a particular product and waste stream.
