|FROG DRAW 3|| FROG Draw 3 (FD3 for short) is a mouse-driven package for the creation of| chemical process flow diagrams.|| KEY TERMS|| FD3 provides instructions at each step of the flow diagram creation process to|help make things as easy as possible for the beginning user. In order for these|instruction to be effective, one must first understand the definitions of a few key|terms.|| o Module|| A module is a unit in a chemical process. Examples of modules are mixers,| separators, evaporators, and pumps. FD3 includes several pre-defined modules| but is also capable of using user-defined modules.|| o Module Body|| A module's body is the picture which FD3 draws to represent that module. Every|module has a body.|| o Module Label|| A label is normally placed on top of a module's body so that the module may be|easily identified. Not all modules have labels. When modules are moved or|deleted, so are their labels.|| o Stream|| A stream is roughly equivalent to a pipe in a chemical plant. It is used to| connect two modules. In FD3, a stream MUST start on one module and end on| another module. Two special "modules" called Feed Arrow and Product Arrow| are included so that streams which enter or exit the process may be drawn. When|one of the modules to which a stream is connected is moved or deleted, that|stream is also moved or deleted. Every stream has an arrow to indicate its|direction of flow.|| o Stream Label|| Like modules, streams also have labels for indentification. These labels| must be numbers. When streams are moved or deleted, so are their labels.|| A stream label may also be a list of numbers separated by commas or colons| (but not spaces). This ability is useful when using FD3 in conjunction with| Rice University's material & energy balance software. The following stream| labels are valid:|| 1:3| 4,5| 3,4,5|| Lists of stream numbers may also be enclosed in brackets:|| [4:6]| [1,2,3]|| o Text|| FD3 also has the ability to insert free text which is not associated with any| module or stream. Such text is simply referred to as "text" or a "text object."|| o Box|| FD3 includes the ability to highlight portions of the flow diagram by enclosing|those sections in boxes. Streams CANNOT be connected to these boxes.|| DIALOG BOXES|| One special note must be made about FD3 dialog boxes. Whenever a dialog box| appears and asks you to enter information, you must click on the DONE button| when you are finished typing. The RETURN key cannot be used to close a| dialog box.|| ORDER OF OPERATIONS|| Unlike most mouse-driven programs, FD3 requires that you select the action you|wish to perform and then select the object on which you wish to perform that action.|This order of operations was chosen because it allows FD3 to give users|step-by-step instructions for every operation.|
