Brainstorming
Your goal is to develop a novel biotechnology that involves the construction of genetically encoded materials for a synthetic biology application.
- Before the first meeting as a team, read
about some of the ideas that were developed for Previous iGEM Competitions
- As you discuss project ideas, ask these questions:
- Which of your ideas are most compelling? (e.g., it prevents pollution, improves human health, measures something, etc.)
- How will your ideas differ (or extend) from previous work that has tried to solve a similar problem?
- What DNA devices will need to be built for your project?
Will you piece together genes and regulatory elements
found in nature? Will you build on previously developed
devices?
- What are possible challenges (bottlenecks) in building and
characterizing our device? How long do you expect it
to take?
- Prepare a document containing an overview of your brainstorming
sessions (check OWL-Space or Course Schedule
on web site for due date)
- briefly describe each idea that you discussed
- give your rationale for accepting or rejecting each idea
NOTE: Each team should submit a single document
about the brainstorming sessions; please submit as .doc
or .docx in "Assignments" in OWL-Space
