You may be disappointed if you fail, but you are doomed if you don't try.
Beverly Sills
Journal Club Presentation
- In pairs, you will give a 20 minute journal club style
presentation
in PowerPoint followed by 5 minutes Q/A
- The journal club presentation, which is 20% of your
final grade, is one way we evaluate your understanding of
the molecular biology used in designing genetic circuits
and your ability to communicate these findings in an appropriate
and accurate manner
- Student presentations will be given from 1-2 p.m. on
lab days 3-8; see the Journal
Club Presentation Schedule in OWL-Space Resources
- Here are some Tips on How
to Present a Paper.
Remember to address weaknessess/inconsistencies in the study -- do the results support the authors' conclusions?
- We will use the Presentation
Evaluation Form (in
OWL-Space Resources) to assess your presentation
- You're expected to read ALL the articles for each day,
even the day you are presenting; be prepared to
discuss each article and ask questions. See How
to Read a Scientific Article (howtoread.pdf in OWL-Space Resources) for tips on reading research
papers.
