Appendix E: Facilities

Currently, there are few official plans for new varsity or club/IM facilities besides the practice varsity basketball and volleyball courts presently under construction between the Jake Hess Tennis Stadium and Autry Court.  Plans exist to build additional tennis courts behind the Jake Hess Tennis Stadium.  One concern of student athletes is that the administration has no intentions of building an outdoor swimming pool that would be deep enough to host diving.  Gillis did refer to a "convocation center" in his Strategic Plan, a facility that could hold large university events while housing basketball and volleyball courts, along with a competition-sized swimming pool.  There was no time frame on the planning of this facility, however, but such a facility is expected to cost about $36.5 million.  The plan made a goal of allotting $16 million to the IM program.  The student body has shown an interest in improving varsity, club and IM facilities, as seen in an editorial in the Thresher earlier this year.
