Review Paper Guidelines

The ability to read scientific papers and to digest and assess the relevant information is an important tool for a research scientist. In addition, the ability to summarize this material concisely and to communicate the essential results to one's peers is a critical skill that it is never too early to practice. This project helps further these goals.

PROJECT: Review Paper on The Flare/CME Connection

  • Write a concise review based on the guidelines below that summarizes the relationship between solar flares and coronal mass ejections with some independent commentary about your views on the issue.

GUIDELINES:

  • Number of Pages - 8 (excluding references)

  • Number of Figures - No more than the equivalent of 2 pages (included in your 8 page total)

  • Single-spaced 11pt font

DEADLINE: In-class, Thursday December 6 [last day of classes]

The Review Paper is worth 20% of final grade.

Suggested format (not enforced):

  • Brief Abstract

  • Brief historical introduction

  • Overview of topic - including a summary of what specific topics you plan to cover in your paper

  • Summary with your brief independent commentary on the topic

  • Comprehensive list of references (compulsory)
