RESEARCH
The effect of multitasking on workload ratings for on-hold
callers. Master’s Proposal, 2008.Designed three experiments to validate on-hold caller behavior in real-world scenarios and investigate the relationship between multitasking, on-hold stimuli, and workload ratings. Built interactive voice response system with VBVoice to handle participant calls. Developed protocol for an ethnographic field study using remote video recording to capture real-world user behavior.
YouVotronic – An electronic voting interface. Class project, 2007.
Developed a prototype touchscreen electronic voting interface as a part of an interdisciplinary team. Applied numerous human factors techniques in an iterative design cycle, including task analysis, GOMS modeling, Pareto analysis, error analysis, and heuristic evaluation. Tested six pilot users on the interface for efficiency, effectiveness, and satisfaction. Presented findings in class.
User interactions in massively-multiplayer online role-playing games. Literature review, 2007.
Reviewed select works on massively-multiplayer online role-playing games, a dominant form of computer gaming today. Examined demographics, motivations, play patterns, business models, and additional issues such as addiction and griefing among players.
Garry’s mod: Toward an immersive learning experience. Class project, 2007.
Investigated the possible use of a commercial computer game for virtual training. Surveyed 100 players over the Internet for interaction patterns, attitudes, and willingness to adopt alternative methods of physical simulation. Conducted a cooperative virtual field study in an online environment. Presented findings in class.
User interactions in massively-multiplayer online role-playing games. Literature review, 2007.
Reviewed relevant literature regarding the demographics, motivations, play patterns, and other issues such as griefing and addiction among players of massively-multiplayer online role-playing games (MMORPGs).
The use of virtual reality in training. Literature review, 2006.
Reviewed the use of simulations for training and rehabilitation. Discussed the merits, limitations, and design and implementation issues associated with computer, model, environmental, and low-fidelity virtual reality systems.
