Problem
Connexions offers several convenient tools for
authoring a module, such as Microsoft Word Importer and Edit-In-Place.
These tools are intended for users without XML knowledge to create
a module in Connexions with ease. However, it is not known whether
these tools are actually easy for users. Therefore, it is important
to do a user testing to find this out. Once the problems are identified,
a new interactive design is necessary.
Solution - Procedure
- Heuristically evaluated these two tools
and found that there were several features might pose difficulty
to users;
- Carried out cognitive walkthrough and
created workflow charts to check any steps that might cause
problems to users;
- Combined the results from both heuristic
evaluation and cognitive walkthrough and worked out a list
of potential problematic features;
- Planned user testing (scripts, tasks,
and online questionnaire) based on previous work;
- Conducted a user testing and identified
problems with these two tools
- Made prototypes for the new interactive design
