Impressions of Prague
Phun with Photoshop
The Goal
I set out to describe the essence of Prague using three photos I took while I was there in July 2000. Prague is a city in motion that somehow captures past, present and future in the same moment. History of WWII concentration camps and communist rule blend with the first feeble steps of a free market briskly on its way to joining the global economy. People bustle about--some on their way to the new McDonalds, others simple walking their dog through the winding cobbleston streets. To put that feeling into one image was quite a challenge.

The Process
I used a color filter on the dog photo to turn in an acid green. Then I selected portions of the photo by color range and deleted them to emphasize the dog and the leash and to give it a grainy feel. I inserted it into the piece twice in different sizes and erased the edges to make it a bit more rugged. I also dodged around the sides to make it a bit more blurry. I changed to opacity to make the big image a little lighter and the small image much lighter.
I cropped the photo of the walker down to her body, erased around down to the edges and inserted it in the main piece.
For the tunnel photo, I puled out the white light that has glimmering of the outline of a devil-like figure. I doged the edges and inserted it into the main piece at a very low opacity.
I added text to give the piece a location...Praha.
